Using the Brillamont Star Methodology, we take students through a process that helps them develop their full potential and become community leaders.
We stimulate their integral development through these 10 habits:
1. SETTING A GOOD EXAMPLE
As we have learned throughout this blog series, “children see, children do”. At Brillamont, we do our best to set a great example for our students. We believe that little good deeds every day make a big impact in their development.
We are strong believers in the power of teamwork. By setting a common goal with their peers, students are able to rely on each other strengths to achieve their purpose more effectively. At Brillamont, we believe that the child must learn to work interpersonally to fully reach their potential and help others reach theirs.
3. DECISION MAKING ABILITIES
Children will face different moments in their lives where they are going to need to make a decision. At Brillamont we want to make sure that they develop the key skills to make a good decision. We help children identify the specific situation where they most make a decision, help them think about the problem and evaluate their options to make the best choice.
4. EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Communication is an essential part of our life. From body language to written and oral communication, we must learn to communicate effectively: not only to convey messages ourselves, but to be active listeners as well. Brillamont provides an atmosphere in which children have ample room to practice their communication skills. We are committed to developing their skills at each step of the way so that they are able to excel at every communication level.
5. HARD WORK
In order to succeed at Brillamont, hard work is indispensable. We foster the virtue of industriousness in our students so that they are able to stand up to any challenge in the future. We teach our students to set goals and develop the necessary plans to achieve them. Every child must learn to work hard to achieve their personal goals, no matter what the task is. We understand that each goal most be approached one step at a time. Thus, we make a point to reward any type of progress.
6. PROJECT PLANNING
Leaders need to develop organization skills. This is one of those things that may sound very complicated to teach a child. At Brillamont, we involve children in activities where they can develop this ability through their education. We teach our students the importance of meeting deadlines. Teachers will give students long term projects and break them up into smaller sections throughout the school year. This allows the student to acquire the habit of foresight and acquire planning skills for long-term projects. As they become older, students will learn to deal with deadlines and work through projects with dedication.
Mentoring is a key element of the Brillamont Star Methodology. Every one of our students is assigned a mentor who is committed to helping the child develop his personal skills and abilities. The mentor is devoted to guiding his ‘mentee’ through day-to-day challenges, creating a strong mentor-student relationship of support and guidance.
8. REWARD POSITIVE THINKING
Although we value the importance of mistakes at Brillamont, we like to focus on the postitve that comes from errors. We believe that positive thinking has a great impact on educating the leaders of tomorrow. Rewarding positive thinking and behavior reiterates the importance of perseverance and self-confidence.
9. ENCOURAGE PERSEVERANCE
Children learn that it is not enough to merely ‘want’ something in order to acquire it. Success requires a lot of hard work and patience. Like a tree that takes a long time to grow and flourish, children need to learn that things take time and effort. We teach them that making little steps every day will help them reach their goals.
10. FLOURISH CREATIVITY
We believe that every child has an innate talent for creativity. The Brillamont Star methodology provides the appropriate resources, spaces and atmospheres for it. We encourage the children to participate in everything that they find fun and exciting. Understanding that everyone is different, we create different activities for them to exhibit their creativity and encourage them to keep growing.
